Background
Aaron Goodwin is one of New Zealand's most outstanding un-profiled photographers, celebrated for his wedding and portrait art. His work shows a unique perspective and deconstructive approach to the way we view our world. Aaron has always kept a low profile with his work, focusing on creating simply breathtaking images. Receiving accolades and praise from the photographic community has not been something Aaron has worked towards. His time has been well spent, dedicated to perfecting his art. His passion for photography and the praise he receives from his clients is a true testament to his ability to create some of the most beautiful wedding art seen today. With an uncompromising pursuit of excellence, Aaron's success can be attributed to his absolute obsession with creating new and innovative photographic ideas that have and will stand the test of time.
Aaron's natural ability to build a rapport with his subjects helps him capture their true selves in a relaxed and fluid manner. Aaron's extraordinary talents enable him to photograph an ordinary situation and transform it into something incredibly beautiful. He believes in using traditional camera techniques and tools to produce outstanding results. Aaron's eye for capturing that decisive moment and his ability to manipulate light is reflected in images that are very unique and full of life.
Aaron specialises in available light photography and the use of prime lenses instead of a flash, as a preferred way of working. Aaron says, “To photograph your subject through the lens is only painting half the picture. To complete the canvas, you must rely on your intuition, artistic sensibilities and have a well developed understanding of light. Exposure is a true art-form that can only be mastered with experience and time.”
Born in Taranaki, New Zealand in 1973, life in the country has had a profound influence on his path to photographing people, nature and the environment. His pursuit for visual creativity was established at an early age. Having a strong family history in the arts, Aaron was able to direct his creative energy toward design and photography. Aaron graduated from the Wanganui School of Design in 1994 after three and a half years and was awarded a National Diploma in Graphic Design.
Also known for photographing portraits and landscapes, he has had extensive experience in the design, television and film industry. Currently based in Auckland with his wife Nicola, Aaron continues to develop his love and passion for photographing people and the worlds most beautiful and interesting locations.
